The MALA Ball
The MALA Ball is legendary. Taking place every year since 2005, it is an institution on the Midlands Circuit. Every year, over 550 solicitors, barristers and judges celebrate the achievement of Asian lawyers and the diversity of the legal profession at Athena.
Every year, MALA is honoured to receive a guest speaker from the judiciary to share their insight and experience. In 2018, Her Honour Judge Dhir QC spoke to a sold out venue. In 2019, it was Lord Justice Singh, the first Asian judge in the Court of Appeal. All 550 tickets sold out in 2 weeks.
Bookings open in August every year, with new and returning friends welcome.
The Annual MALA ball raises money for good causes as a proportion of ticket sales are donated by MALA to local charities. In 2018, £7,500 was raised for the Laura Centre, an incredible charity based in Leicester. In 2019, over £8,000 was raised for True Honour and Midland Langar Seva Society The Ball also funds MALA's activities and allows MALA to be self-funded and independent. In organising the ball, MALA relies on ticket sales and sponsorship. Past sponsors have included national firms, chambers and businesses working with or in the legal sector.
