We're proud to introduce the Northern Asian Lawyers Association - a new professional society dedicated to supporting, connecting, and empowering lawyers of Asian heritage across the North of England. Following the success of Midland Asian Lawyers Association, NALA have taken inspiration build a similar network for those based in cities such as Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield and Newcastle.


Our Aims

Lead by HHJ Fayyaz Afzal CBE, NALA aims to:

  • Foster community and mentorship among Asian legal professionals;

  • Build relationships with the wider profession and the judiciary, to promote diversity and inclusivity in the profession,

  • Host events, panels, and networking opportunities throughout the year,

  • Provide a platform for education, community and professional development.

We’re currently recruiting two committee members to help shape the future of NALA. If you're passionate about representation, community building and advancing equity in the legal field, we’d love to hear from you.

Timings

  1. Application Deadline: Friday, 27 March 2026, 5pm

  2. Shortlisted candidates will be notified by Friday, 1 May 2026

  3. Shortlisted candidates will then be interviewed remotely by the recruitment panel

  4. You will be notified of the decision by Friday, 22 May 2026 and the successful candidates will become part of the committee immediately.


Role Description


  1. NALA covers various areas; Leeds, Manchester, Liverpool, Sheffield and Newcastle.

  2. NALA is looking to recruit up to two new committee members based in the North of England.

  3. We are looking to recruit practising barristers/ solicitors/ legal executives.

  4. All committee members must positively contribute to our work with commitment.

  5. Recruits must be able to use social media (namely Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn) for the purpose of promoting our work and events.

  6. Discussions and decisions are primarily over email and WhatsApp.

  7. We hold approximately 3-4 meetings spread out over the year. These are held, usually remotely, on weekdays from about 6pm. The duration of these meeting can be up to a few hours.

  8. NALA requires all members to attend meetings, attend events, contribute to discussions, decisions and the organising of events. We appreciate that due to professional/ personal commitments, there may be occasions where members cannot do so.
